Rachael Allen

Rachael Allen is a visual artist and researcher living and working in Newcastle, UK. Her practice is structured around the reciprocity between the visual arts, medical sciences and humanities, addressing the role of art as a lens for examining anatomical sciences, medicine (as a human practice) and by implication, human health and illness whilst contributing to the emerging critical medical humanities as well as upholding an independent and collaborative arts practice, nationally and internationally. Researching as Artist in Residence (AIR) at university anatomy and clinical skills laboratories in North East England, the artist contributes to the expanding field of the Medical Humanities and develops methods of integrating arts methodologies into medical education alongside empirical observational research; disseminating her findings through art exhibitions, interdisciplinary conferences and publications, nationally and internationally.
