Geoffrey Harrison

Geoffrey Harrison is a figurative artist, based in London. His work often uses representations of human and animal anatomy and references physiology, body processes and the symbolism of the body as a vessel for the self. His arts practice is broad incorporating painting, drawing and sculpture. He also teaches, curates and collaborates on arts projects for festivals, museums and galleries.
While he doesn’t claim to be a science practitioner himself, his interest in anatomy, and the compelling crossover of art and science, can be traced back to his childhood as a son of medical artists, where he grew up surrounded by medical and anatomical imagery. Following an MA in London, he established an art residency at the Pathology Museum at St. Bart’s Hospital in 2012-13, where he made a series of paintings inspired by the remarkable specimens there. Geoffrey was awarded Leverhulme Trust funding to work as Artist in Residence at the Royal Veterinary College in 2013-14. He has produced a series of paintings that were presented to the College at the end of last year and is continuing to work on an ongoing body of work, whilst contributing to the illustration content of the anatomy curriculum, funded by the Animal Care Trust. Amongst other institutions, he has worked with The Medical Research Council, The Museum of London, The University of London, The Medical Artists’ Association of Great Britain and The Bloomsbury Festival as well as various galleries in London, New York and Japan.
