Athar Jaber

fAthar Jaber
Head and face deformations, whatever their cause might be, can aesthetically be compared to sculptures that have been subjected to different kinds of violences or simply to the work of time, which in our perception of reality is also a violence. Entropy, the natural tendency for things to change from a state of order to one of disorder, in our view is perceived as a gradual or sudden destruction of inviolate objects, a metaphor for violence, chaos and disorder.
The symptoms of a certain disease, if only aesthetically analyzed, can be easily compared with a marble sculpture that has suffered the loss of the nose. Equally so, the skin damages generated on a face due to contact with acid are very similar to those endured by a stone sculpture exposed to centuries of environmental weathering.
By looking and reflecting upon this images, thus challenging our moral and aesthetical perception, these phenomenons can be seen as an expression of the violence of live to which we are constantly subjected.
After all, Pathology, considering it’s etymological meaning, may refer to a general account of experience or suffering.
